Ingredients
1 package of Oreo cookies (original or flavored)
8 oz cream cheese, softened
Red, white, and blue candy melts
Patriotic sprinkles (stars, sanding sugar, etc.)
Optional: coconut oil or shortening to thin candy melts
Instructions
Crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or a zip-top bag and rolling pin.
In a bowl, mix the Oreo crumbs with softened cream cheese until well combined and smooth.
Roll the mixture into small balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Freeze the balls for 20-30 minutes until firm.
Melt the red, white, and blue candy melts in separate bowls, following package instructions. Add a little coconut oil or shortening if needed for a smooth consistency.
Dip each Oreo ball into the melted candy, allowing excess to drip off. Decorate immediately with patriotic sprinkles or drizzle contrasting colors over the coating.
Place the decorated Oreo balls back on parchment paper to set completely.
Serve on a festive platter or store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to enjoy.
Notes
To avoid cracks, let the Oreo balls sit at room temperature for 5 minutes after freezing before dipping. Use high-quality candy melts and decorations for the best results. Patriotic Oreo Balls can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 2 months.
