Ingredients

  • Red and blue gel food coloring

  • White frosting (buttercream or whipped topping)

  • Patriotic sprinkles, fresh strawberries, blueberries, or mini flags for decorating

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with red, white, or blue cupcake liners.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Add eggs and vanilla to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.

  • Alternately mix in the flour mixture and milk, starting and ending with flour.

  • Divide batter into three bowls: leave one plain, tint one red, and one blue using gel food coloring.

  • Layer or swirl colored batters into each cupcake liner.

  • Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.

 

  • Frost with white icing and decorate with sprinkles, berries, or themed cupcake toppers.

Notes

To make allergy-friendly versions, substitute dairy-free milk and butter, gluten-free flour blends, or egg replacers. Use gel coloring for vibrant tones without bitter flavor.
