Ingredients
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup milk
Red and blue gel food coloring
White frosting (buttercream or whipped topping)
Patriotic sprinkles, fresh strawberries, blueberries, or mini flags for decorating
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with red, white, or blue cupcake liners.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs and vanilla to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.
Alternately mix in the flour mixture and milk, starting and ending with flour.
Divide batter into three bowls: leave one plain, tint one red, and one blue using gel food coloring.
Layer or swirl colored batters into each cupcake liner.
Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
Frost with white icing and decorate with sprinkles, berries, or themed cupcake toppers.
Notes
To make allergy-friendly versions, substitute dairy-free milk and butter, gluten-free flour blends, or egg replacers. Use gel coloring for vibrant tones without bitter flavor.
